Privacy Policy
Effective July 16, 2026
This policy describes what MapBelow (mapbelow.com) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: browsing the map is anonymous, we only collect personal details you type in on purpose, and we never sell personal information.
1. What we collect
- Nothing personal to browse.Exploring states, counties, and wells requires no account. Your recent properties are stored only in your own browser (localStorage) — we don't receive them.
- Quote requests. If you request a drilling quote we collect the details you enter: name, email, phone (optional), your proposed drilling location, and your message.
- Partner checkout. If you purchase a territory we collect your business and contact details. Card numbers go directly to Stripe, our payment processor — we never see or store them.
- Usage analytics. Standard interaction data (pages viewed, searches run, features used, approximate location from IP, device type) via the analytics services below.
- Server logs. IP addresses and request details, kept for security, rate limiting, and abuse prevention.
2. How we use it
- To run the service: property searches, address lookup, 3D rendering.
- To route your quote request — with your consent, checked at submission — to the well drilling contractor sponsoring that county, along with a summary of nearby public well records.
- To bill and support Partner Program subscriptions.
- To understand what works and to measure advertising, using the analytics services below.
- To protect the dataset and the service from scraping and abuse.
3. Analytics and advertising tools
We use PostHog (product analytics; session replays mask everything you type), Google Analytics, and the Meta Pixel(to measure our advertising). These set cookies or similar identifiers and receive standard usage events. We do not send them your name, email, phone number, or quote details. You can limit this with browser settings, ad blockers, or Do Not Track (our product analytics honors DNT), and through Meta ad preferences and Google ad settings.
4. What we share — and don't
- We never sell personal information.
- Quote requests go to the sponsoring contractor for your county, as described above.
- Service providers process data for us: Stripe (payments), our hosting providers, PostHog, Google, and Meta (analytics/ads), and OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service (the address you search is sent there to find coordinates).
- We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the service.
5. Retention
Quote requests are kept while useful for routing and support. Partner account records are kept for the life of the account plus what tax and accounting rules require. Analytics data follows each provider's retention settings. Server logs rotate on a short schedule.
6. Your choices
- Ask us to see, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you: support@mapbelow.com.
- Clear your in-browser recent properties anytime by clearing site data.
- Opt out of ad measurement via the links in section 3.
7. Other notes
MapBelow is intended for users in the United States and is not directed at children under 13. Well records shown on the map are public records published by state agencies — they are not "personal information" we collected from you. We may update this policy; material changes will be posted here with a new effective date.
